Sub-Zero sealed system repair

Refrigerant circuit work, where the diagnosis matters more than the part. A cabinet that cools unevenly, frosts in one zone or runs warm on one side often points here rather than at the control board.

On the visit

How this visit actually goes

The same order every time, so nothing is opened and nothing is charged before you have seen the figure and said yes.

  1. 01

    Everything cheaper, ruled out

A cabinet running warm is a condenser, a fan, a gasket or a defrost circuit long before it is the sealed system. We rule those out before opening a refrigerant circuit.

  2. 02

    The leak, located

Electronic detection and a pressure test find where the charge is going. A system recharged without finding the leak is a repair that fails again in a season.

  3. 03

    Recover, repair, replace the drier

Refrigerant is recovered rather than vented, the line or joint is repaired, and the filter drier is replaced — it has been holding moisture since the leak began.

  4. 04

    Verified back to set point

The cabinet is pulled down and held at its set point under load before we leave. A sealed system repair that has not been checked under load is not finished.

About Sub-Zero sealed system repair

What the sealed system actually is

The compressor, condenser, evaporator and the refrigerant circuit joining them. It is a closed system, which is why a leak in it does not announce itself the way a broken part does: the unit keeps running and simply stops holding temperature. Diagnosis matters more here than anywhere else on this list, because the wrong call means opening a circuit that did not need opening.

When a symptom points here

  • A cabinet that cools unevenly, or holds temperature at night and not by day
  • One zone frosting while another runs warm
  • A dual-refrigeration cabinet where one side is fine and the other is not — two systems, one of them in trouble
  • A compressor running far longer than it used to for the same result

What the work involves

Leak detection, refrigerant recovery, repairs to the filter drier and lines, then evacuation and a correct charge — and the unit run back to its set point before we leave. It is a job measured in hours rather than minutes, which is part of why it starts where it does.

Questions about Sub-Zero sealed system repair

How do I know it is the sealed system and not something cheaper?

You usually do not, and that is the point of diagnosing first. A cabinet running warm can be a condenser, a fan, a gasket or a defrost circuit long before it is the sealed system — we rule those out before opening a refrigerant circuit.

Why does this cost more than on a regular refrigerator?

Built-in parts cost more and the access is slower. A unit fitted into cabinetry has to be reached before any of the work starts, and the figures published online are mostly for freestanding refrigerators.

My cabinet has two sealed systems. Does that double it?

Not automatically. Dual-refrigeration cabinets are priced per system, and if only one side is in trouble that is the side we work on.

Will the unit hold temperature afterwards?

We run it back to its set point and verify it before leaving. A sealed system repair that has not been checked under load is not finished.
