What we repair

Sub-Zero makes refrigeration. That is all we work on.

Wolf handles cooking and Cove handles dishwashers. They are sister brands with different parts and different training, so we stay on refrigeration. That is the reason the part your unit needs is far more likely to already be on the van when we arrive.

  • Dark kitchen with wood cabinetry and a black marble splashback under warm strip lighting
    Classic · Designer · PRO

    Built-in refrigerators

Columns, over-and-under, French door and side-by-side, from 30" to 48". These are built into your cabinetry and cannot simply be rolled out, so we plan the access before we arrive rather than discovering it in your kitchen.

    • Not cooling, or cooling unevenly
    • Dual refrigeration: one side warm
    • Sealed system and compressor failures
    Refrigerator repair
  • Undercounter wine cooler with glass doors built into a kitchen island
    Single & multi-zone

    Wine storage

A wine cabinet tends to fail quietly. It drifts a couple of degrees and says nothing, and in a market full of second homes that often goes unnoticed until the collection has paid for it. If a zone is reading off, it is worth looking at early.

    • A zone drifting off its set temperature
    • Humidity control and vibration
    • Door seals, glass heaters and lighting
    Wine cooler repair
  • Frost building up on a cold surface inside a freezer

    Freezers

Column freezers and freezer sections that frost over, run warm, or never quite hold their set point.

    • Heavy frost build-up
    • Defrost heater and thermistor failures
    • Door and gasket sealing

  • Clear ice cubes on a dark reflective surface

    Ice makers

Undercounter, clear-ice and outdoor units, with or without a pump.

    • No ice, or slow production
    • Cloudy ice instead of clear
    • Leaks and drain blockages
    Ice maker repair
  • A pale blue run of drawers with a glass-fronted wine drawer built in
    Drawers & beverage centers

    Undercounter & drawers

Refrigerator drawers and beverage centers built into islands and bars.

    • Drawer units running warm
    • Control and display problems
    • Condenser access in tight cabinetry
    Undercounter repair
  • Covered outdoor kitchen beside a pool, with a built-in cooktop on a concrete counter
    Heat · Salt · Storms

    Outdoor refrigeration

Outdoor refrigerators and ice makers — the equipment this climate is hardest on.

    • Heat-stressed sealed systems
    • Salt-air corrosion on coils
    • Trouble restarting after a storm

South Florida

The climate is part of the diagnosis.

  • Year-round heat. Condensers here clog faster and run hotter, so cleaning is seasonal rather than annual.
  • Coastal salt air. Near the water, condenser coils and stainless corrode years ahead of schedule.
  • Outages and surges. Storm season brings restart problems and error codes that only show up once the power is back.
  • High-rise installs. Service elevator windows and HOA rules shape the schedule as much as the repair itself does.
  • Enclosed kickplates. Sub-Zero warns this can cause sealed system failure — and custom cabinetry is the norm here.

Error codes

What your error code is actually telling you.

Sub-Zero has used three code formats over the years, and the modern one is easy to read once you know it is three numbers rather than one. Here is how to read yours — and, just as useful, what it does not tell you.

Reading a modern code

Read together, 15 1 01 tells you the refrigerator compressor relay is stuck closed, so power is reaching the compressor continuously. That is what the control board can see. Whether the relay itself gave out, or something upstream damaged it, is what an on-site diagnosis is for — and it is why we will never quote you a repair from a code alone.

Three formats, three eras

  • 05 Two-digit — 600, 648PRO and 700 Series, still all over Miami
  • EC50 EC-prefixed — Designer and later. EC50 means excessive compressor run time
  • 15 1 01 Three-part — Classic, Designer and current units. Also written 15-1-01

What the first number means

10 Thermistor — a cabinet, evaporator or condenser sensor reading open or shorted
15 Relay, including the water check valve stuck open or closed
20 Defrost — heater, sensor and defrost cycle problems
30 Ice and water — dispenser and accessory issues
35 Fan — condenser fan speed out of range
40 Runtime — a zone running too warm, too cold, or with a large differential
44 Glass heater — glass door and door flipper circuits
60 Load and component — power output to a load, or an unstable zone
90 Diagnostics — a zone reading open or shorted (also 95 and 98)

Second digit is the zone: 1 refrigerator, 2 freezer, 3 condenser and evaporator, with further zones on multi-zone wine units.

419 error codes, every one traced back to the manufacturer's own page. Where a code has no published meaning, we publish the symptom instead of inventing an explanation for it. That is the difference between this list and most of what you will find searching.

No code on the display — just a flashing Service light, a wrench icon or EE? That is the most common way a Sub-Zero asks for help. Start from the symptom instead, or call us and we will tell you what it usually points to.

How a visit goes

From your first call to the invoice, nothing is a surprise.

  1. 01

    Intake

Tell us what the unit is doing, the model and how it is installed. Cannot find the model number? We will tell you exactly where Sub-Zero puts it.

  2. 02

    Diagnosis

We read the active and stored codes on site, then test the sealed system and the airflow.

  3. 03

    Scope in writing

You see the work and the price before anything is opened, and you approve it first. No surprises later.

  4. 04

    Repair and verify

We run the unit back to its set point before we leave, and our workmanship is covered by warranty.

What it costs

What these repairs usually cost in South Florida.

We price by the job, because that is how a problem actually shows up in your kitchen. Treat these as a starting point — anyone giving you an exact number over the phone, sight unseen, is guessing.

Door gasket replacement

from $220

The least expensive fix for a cabinet that will not hold its temperature.

Condenser fan or coil

from $280

The most common job we see here. Heat and salt air drive it.

Evaporator replacement

from $650

Usually follows a sealed system diagnosis.

Control board

from $450

Varies sharply by series, and boards for legacy units can be hard to source.

Compressor replacement

from $1,400

Major work. If the unit is not worth it, we will tell you so plainly.

Sealed system repair

from $1,200

Refrigerant circuit work, where the diagnosis matters more than the part.

Diagnostic visit from $95, credited toward the repair when you go ahead. Every figure above is a starting point for this equipment in South Florida — the model, the access and the part move it. Exact cost is confirmed after an on-site diagnostic, never over the phone.

Questions

Straight answers

Are you authorized by Sub-Zero?

No, and we will not claim otherwise. We are an independent repair company. Authorization is a commercial relationship with the manufacturer and mainly matters for in-warranty claims. Out of warranty, what matters is whether the technician knows the equipment, can source OEM parts, and stands behind the work.

Do you use genuine Sub-Zero parts?

Yes — OEM parts are available on order. Where a good equivalent exists, we price both and tell you which one is going in, so the choice stays yours.

How long does a repair take?

The diagnosis usually takes under an hour. Whether we finish the same day depends on the part: we carry gaskets, fans and thermistors, while control boards for legacy units can take a few days to arrive.

Is a twenty-year-old unit worth repairing?

Often, yes. These units were built to be serviced, and a well-maintained 600 Series can outlast a brand-new mass-market refrigerator. When replacement really is the better call, we will tell you that instead.

What warranty do you give?

A warranty on our workmanship — the labor we performed. Parts carry their own manufacturer warranty. If your unit is still in warranty, that claim goes through the manufacturer's own network rather than through us.
